OVERVIEW
Introducing our “PRO” self-centering shifter for your E30! This listing is for the aluminum rod version, but If you prefer a carbon fiber rod, be sure to check out our carbon PRO shifter listing. This self-centering shifter is one of the best on the market, as it utilizes a perfectly tuned Torsion Spring setup with just the right amount of self-centering force, and is CNC’d from solid 7075 billet aluminum, which means that it feels just as good as it looks!
You can design your shifter exactly how you like as we offer the PRO shifter in two finishes, four shifter rod lengths, and a wide variety of shift knobs. In fact, there are over 80 unique shifter combinations, making the PRO shifter THE MOST CUSTOMIZABLE E30 SELF-CENTERING SHIFTER ON THE MARKET. In the E30 chassis, the base of the shifter protrudes just above the shifter console. For a sleek look, a Garagistic shift boot can be installed to cover the base.
Photo Model:The E30 in the photos is a 1989 US Spec 325is with a Garagistic billet extended selector joint (included with the shifter) and Garagistic 187mm DSSR.
Installation notes: Please keep in mind that all shifters will come with an extended selector joint. The reason for this is that in some cars, the shifter has a slight lean toward the back of the car (because the self-centering mechanism takes some room in the front of the shifter, the shifter body sits a little further back compared to the original placement of the BMW shifter. The extended selector joint is not only an upgrade but also moves the shifter a little more centered. In an e30, it will still have the slightest angle towards the rear of the car. If you want to push it more towards the center, you can get a DSSR which is 10mm longer than the standard selector rod length for your model E30 (not included). Another option to center shifter is to mount it in reverse. This will give additional forward clearance since the self-centering mechanism is now closer to the rear of the car, however, with this change, you will need to drill new mounting holes into the transmission tunnel.
Our shifter also comes with a brand-new gasket to seal your interior (some shifters don’t include this!).
Installation times: E30 – 1 hour (doesn’t require dropping of exhaust)

Features of Garagistic Self-centering shifter include
Shifter lean adjustment (side-to-side lean): Our shifter will make up for the very common 5th gear lean found in many BMW transmissions (if you didn’t replace your shifter detent pins). Simply loosen a screw in the front, move the shifter to the center (or wherever you want), tighten and you’re done.
OEM Shift knob Compatibility: Another feature that is exclusive to the Garagistic PRO self-centering shifter. We offer an OEM-style shaft that allows the use of OEM shift knobs for that stealth look.
The most customizable shifter on the market: With over 600 configurations, you can customize the height, knob type, shift knob, and finish of your shifter to match the aesthetic of your interior as you intended it to be.
Front-to-back fine adjustment: You can further position the shifter where you want forward and back which will fine-tune front the rear shifter lean.
Serviceability: Unlike all other shifters on the market, you don’t need to remove your center console to lubricate. Simply remove the shift knob and spray WD40. We made a “tunnel” system in the shifter that allows lubrication of all bearings and pivot points on the way down.
Ultra Smooth Shifting Feel: Because our shifter is the only one in the world for BMWs that have bearings at all pivot points, you do not need to service the shifter as others. These bearings mean there is never a possibility of metal-on-metal contact. Other shifters rely on bronze or delrin which can squeak or fail to cause metal-on-metal friction. This can cause a lot of resistance to shifting. Our shifters require less servicing and offer a lasting buttery smooth operation.
Lifetime Warranty: Similar shifters only offer a 1-year warranty at best. We are so sure of this product, we offer a lifetime warranty just like we do with everything we make in-house.
Installation
Installation is a breeze thanks to the 3 existing holes in the chassis – simply bolt it up and you’re good to go. Also fits older cars like E30 and E36 (just drill out 3 holes in the square stampings in your trans tunnel!)
Please note: As with all solid shifters, they must be used in conjunction with upgraded poly or solid transmission bushings and motor mounts.
We highly recommend pairing your shifter with a Garagistic DSSR and selector joint to provide the most direct shifting experience possible. We have over 80 configurations of DSSRs, so it is crucial to include the last 7 digits of your VIN# for us to reference and assist us in determining which DSSR is appropriate for your application if you don’t know which one is right for you.

Which size rod should I get for my car?
Tall Rod
Longer throw, less effort (less notchy), places the shift knob in perfect height with a Hydro E-Brake
Short Rod
Shorter throw, more effort (more notchy)
Medium Rod
A perfect middle ground, our most popular shifter rod height.
OEM Option
Slightly taller than the short rod, this option allows you to retain a factory BMW-style shift knob for the ultimate stealth look
Overview: In general, the longer the rod the longer the shift throw will be and the less notchy it will feel while the shorter rod produces a shorter shift throw and a more notchy feel.
It is important to note that due to the varying heights of center consoles in different chassis, certain size rods may be too small/large for you.
For example, the E30 center console is shorter than the E36 center console so a short height shifter rod will be too short in an E36.

Some shifters will also have a slight tilt once installed, due to the tilt of the transmission. This can be adjusted by using the 5th gear tilt screw.
